Republican Congressman Ryan Mackenzie has been accused of embellishing his résumé with private sector experience in real estate sales. The allegations come amid a contest for his Pennsylvania seat.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Mackenzie "was a real estate salesperson licensed in PA," and biographies have consistently listed this as a former profession. However, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) stated that the congressman "fabricated a career … that never existed."
Mackenzie received a real estate license in Pennsylvania in 2006, but it expired in 2008 and was not renewed. During this period, he worked for the Republican Federal Committee of Pennsylvania and the US Department of Labor. A spokesperson for Mackenzie, Arnaud Armstrong, would not comment on whether Mackenzie ever used his real estate license or made any sales, describing mentions of the credential as a career profession as "passing mentions, mostly from third parties."
Mackenzie is seeking re-election in Pennsylvania's seventh congressional district, having won his first term in 2024 by 1% of the vote. He is running against Democrat Bob Brooks.
