US Intercepts Iranian Missile Barrage, Strikes Militia Sites in Iraq

The US military has reported intercepting an Iranian missile barrage aimed at US forces in the Middle East. US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed that all Iranian missiles launched on Tuesday were intercepted.

Washington characterised the incident as "an attempted surprise attack" by Tehran, which it said shattered a brief pause in fighting. The US military also stated it worked with Saudi forces to strike sites in Iraq. These sites were reportedly used by Tehran-backed militias to launch recent attacks.

The Iranian attack occurred while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was visiting Washington for a meeting with Donald Trump.
