US Open champion Wyndham Clark has spoken out about his lowest point in golf, after damaging a historic locker at Oakmont Country Club a year ago. The 32-year-old American golfer was in a 'negative, dark place' after missing the cut at the US Open in 2023, and his world ranking had fallen from a career-high third to 29.
Clark has now won the US Open, just 12 months on, and has spoken about the difficult time he faced after the locker incident. He said that he did a lot of work on his golf swing and confidence in the off-season, and that this payed off as the year progressed.
Clark's victory at the US Open was not without controversy, however, as he received a hostile reception from fans in the final round. Every mistake he made was cheered and booed, and local police had to intervene to eject a couple who were deemed to have crossed a line.
Despite this, Clark was proud of himself for battling through and said that he hoped this would be the last time he faced such a hostile atmosphere at a major tournament.
