The United States is reportedly poised to host the inaugural Women's Club World Cup in January 2028. Discussions to bring the 19-team competition to the US are said to be at an advanced stage, with Los Angeles and San Diego among the favoured host cities.
This move would see the US stage another major FIFA tournament, following the expanded men's Club World Cup which debuted last year. The event is expected to go ahead without a formal bidding process, despite previous talks between Qatar and FIFA.
The winter scheduling aims to avoid a clash with the men's Copa America, which the US is also a frontrunner to host in June and July 2028. This placement, however, raises concerns about a potentially demanding year-round schedule for top players, as the Club World Cup falls between the 2027 Women's World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.
FIFA is reportedly keen to use the US-based Club World Cup as a preparatory event for the 2031 Women's World Cup, which the country is also set to co-host with Mexico, Costa Rica, and Jamaica. This decision for the 2031 World Cup is awaiting formal approval at an Extraordinary FIFA Congress on 23 November.
