The United States staged a notable second-half comeback to defeat Ireland 40-36 in their WXV Global Series opener at Tallaght Stadium. Ireland initially established a comfortable lead, going into half-time 24-12 ahead.

Ireland further extended their advantage to 31-12 early in the second half. However, a loss of control and discipline, including a yellow card for Vicky Elmes Kinlan, allowed the USA to capitalise.

Under the guidance of Irish head coach Jack Hanratty, the USA scored four consecutive tries to secure an unlikely victory. Ireland's Dorothy Wall scored a late try, but they were unable to add further points in their final attack.

Ireland is scheduled to play their next game against Japan in Galway on 27 September.
