Venice is exploring plans to extend its tourist entry fee to cover a broader portion of the year, while also considering raising daily rates to as much as €30. Michele Zuin, the budget and taxation councillor, stated that the current €5 to €10 fee is not enough to curb overtourism.
Zuin noted that there has been "even talk of (going up to) €50" for the fee, though authorities could ultimately cap the charge at €30. The proposed 2027 pricing would require further discussion and agreement with the national government.
The tourist scheme, which applies exclusively to day-trippers, was first launched in 2024. In 2026, the tax operated on designated dates from April 3 to July 26, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., generating over €5.2 million from nearly 680,000 ticket sales.
