Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson has attributed recent flight price increases to the US-Israel conflict with Iran. He stated that Middle East tensions have disrupted oil production and transportation, leading to a surge in jet fuel prices.
Virgin Atlantic introduced a fuel surcharge on ticket prices in May 2026 in response to these rising costs. The surcharge added £50 to an economy class fare, £180 to premium, and £360 to business class.
Despite the higher fuel prices, Virgin Atlantic does not plan significant changes to its winter schedule. The airline expects to operate 95% of its regular schedule, with some potential trimming on routes with low demand in the depths of winter.
