Demi Vollering has taken the overall lead from Kasia Niewiadoma in the Tour de France Femmes, establishing an eight-second advantage with one stage remaining. Vollering secured her fifth stage victory and fifth yellow jersey after an attack in the hills behind Nice.

Vollering extended her lead on the final climb of the Cote de la Ginestière and the subsequent descent, finishing on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Niewiadoma, however, criticised Vollering's FDJ United-Suez team tactics, alleging that teammate Celia Gery intentionally blocked her during the climb.

The stage also saw Maeve Squiban crash on the descent of the Cote de Colomars, ending her breakaway with Loes Adegeest. Meanwhile, French favourite Pauline Ferrand-Prevot withdrew from the race, with an announcement stating she "was not feeling well this morning" and would not start stage eight.

The rivalry between Vollering and Niewiadoma dates back to the 2024 Tour, where Vollering lost to Niewiadoma by four seconds.
