The third stage of the Vuelta a Espana was abandoned on Monday due to severe weather and hailstorms in the French Pyrenees. Riders encountered a severe hailstorm while scaling the Col de Mont-Louis, with 15km remaining of the 174km ride from Gruissan to Font-Romeu.
Overall race leader Tadej Pogacar was observed signalling to the main group to stop, and riders subsequently sought shelter. Organisers later announced that the stage would not resume, and there would be no winner or podium ceremony for the stage.
Pogacar won the opening stage time trial on Saturday, followed by Britain's Matt Brennan who secured victory in the second stage on Sunday.
