Wales Women's national team captain Angharad James has revealed the squad received a play-off history lesson as they aim for a first Women's World Cup appearance. The team takes a 1-0 lead into their play-off semi-final second leg against Albania in Llanelli on Tuesday.
James, 32, has experienced both success and disappointment in previous play-off campaigns. She stated that the team ensured every member, including numerous young players, is "up to speed" on the significance of the current stage.
Wales have reached the play-off stages for a major tournament only three times in their history. Their first attempt for the 2023 World Cup ended in a late extra-time defeat in the final, while they qualified for Euro 2025 two years later.
Despite a lengthy injury list, James is one of only five players from the decisive Euro 2025 qualifier who are in contention to start against Albania. She emphasised the focus is on the Albania game, treating it as a new 90-minute match despite their first-leg advantage.
