Wales has struck gold at the Commonwealth Games, with their women's team sprint trio powering to victory over England in the final at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. The team, comprising Emma Finucane, Rhian Edmunds, and Lowri Thomas, clocked a new Commonwealth Games record time of 46.760s.
This golden performance marks a significant upgrade for the trio, who previously secured a bronze medal at the Birmingham Games in 2022. Their win contributes to Team Wales' growing medal tally, which now stands at 18, including three gold, six silver, and nine bronze.
The track cycling events on the opening night also saw success for Wales with Para-cyclist James Ball and his guide Matt Rotherham earning a silver, and the women's team pursuit claiming a bronze. However, the men's team sprint trio was unable to compete in their bronze medal race due to Ioan Hepburn feeling unwell, resulting in Trinidad and Tobago being awarded the bronze.
