Wales' women's rugby team has shown promise under coach Sean Lynn with a 34-17 victory over the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham. The win, which was only the second success of the Lynn era, has given momentum to the team ahead of the WXV Global Series.
Five uncapped players featured in the match, including try-scorers Amy Williams, Kayleigh Powell, Seren Lockwood, Courtney Keight, and Jorja Aiono. The performance has given encouragement to the team after the misery of the World Cup and Six Nations.
Coach Sean Lynn was wise to urge against getting carried away with the win, acknowledging that there is still much work to be done. However, he was impressed with the performance of the young players, saying, 'This has given exposure to individuals coming into the camp. You can't just put them into Test match rugby, this was the perfect opportunity for us to play the next generation.'
Wales return for pre-season on 3 August as they build towards the WXV Global Series, where they will host South Africa and USA in September before October Tests in Japan. Some experienced players may be sweating on their places, or at least looking over their shoulder, after failing to fire in just over a year of working under Lynn.
