Warmer and drier weather is forecast to return to parts of the UK next week, with temperatures potentially reaching 25C in England and Wales. This follows a period of changeable weather, which has included rain and strong winds across most parts of the UK.
An area of high pressure is expected to build near the UK early next week. This system is predicted to largely block Atlantic weather systems, which typically bring wind and rain, from reaching the country. Most of the UK can expect drier weather, lighter winds, and higher daytime temperatures, though north-west Scotland may still experience some rain.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 20C in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and as high as 25C in England and Wales. This is several degrees above the average for this time of year. Despite the recent wet weather, the whole of Wales and most of England remain in drought.
The weather is expected to settle over the weekend, following stronger south-westerly winds and rain on Friday. The northern half of the UK will see sunshine and blustery showers on Saturday, mainly in Scotland. The southern half is likely to be cloudier with a chance of light rain and drizzle, clearing on Sunday for dry conditions and sunny spells in most places.
