While some videos depict legitimate small-business owners selling their own products, others may lead to schemes that generate income by selling starter kits rather than paying workers. More concerning versions could expose jobseekers to advance-fee fraud, identity theft, or parcel mule scams.
MoneyMagpie advises caution, highlighting that genuine home assembly and piecework jobs are legal in the UK. However, eligible workers must receive at least the minimum wage for every hour worked or a properly calculated “fair rate” per task, with clear written information from the employer.
Warning signs of potentially non-genuine offers include being asked to buy a starter kit or pay a registration fee, exceptionally high pay claims, communication moving to messaging apps like WhatsApp, and requests for personal information too early.
