Belgium's Tim Wellens has claimed victory in the 2026 Tour of Britain. Wellens began the final stage with a 21-second lead over Great Britain's Lewis Askey and extended this to 42 seconds, finishing eighth on the day.
German rider Nils Politt won stage five, launching an attack with under nine kilometres remaining to secure his first stage win since 2022. Askey finished 40 seconds behind Wellens on the 156.1km route through Earlston, but held onto second place overall, with Belgium's Jasper Stuyven 21 seconds behind him in third.
Other British riders also featured in the top ten, with Elliot Rowe finishing sixth, Mark Donovan ninth, and Ben Wiggins tenth. Prior to the stage, riders formed a guard of honour for Briton Ben Swift, 38, who recently announced his retirement at the end of the 2026 season.
