The latest Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Awards have honoured 20 organisations across Wales for their unwavering commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. With a total of 331 national recipients in 2026, these Welsh businesses stand out for their dedication to creating an inclusive environment for service personnel, veterans, reservists, and their families. The ceremony at Cardiff's Hilton Hotel highlighted the growing recognition of employers who go above and beyond to support those with ties to the military.
Among the recipients were prominent names such as Tata Steel UK and NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, alongside smaller enterprises like Aberafan Shopping Centre and Wrexham Lager Beer Company Limited. These organisations have demonstrated a range of approaches in supporting their Armed Forces-connected colleagues, from HR policies to fostering relationships with veterans' groups.
Ruth Knoyle, Head of Talent Acquisition & Employee Experience at Tata Steel UK, expressed her company's pride in receiving the award, highlighting existing initiatives and plans to further develop ties with the Armed Forces community. Neil Frow OBE, Managing Director of NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, noted that the Silver ERS Award was a significant milestone for their ongoing commitment to inclusion and creating a supportive workplace environment.
The Silver ERS Award recognises employers who have not only expressed but actively demonstrated their support through practical policies, including ensuring fair recruitment processes and informing employees about Reservists', Veterans', Cadet Force Adult Volunteers', and the spouses' and partners' rights. Mr Craig Middle, the MoD's Defence Relationship Manager for South Wales, welcomed the high number of Welsh employers achieving this recognition.
