The fiery passion of Welsh twin boxers Garan and Ioan Croft is set to ignite the professional boxing scene after their deal with Matchroom Sport. Born on a tightrope, separated by just one minute in age, these 24-year-old brothers from Crymych have always lived for competition – now they're taking it to the next level. With an unbreakable bond and an insatiable hunger to succeed, Garan and Ioan are determined to make their mark on the professional ranks.
The brothers' switch to the pro circuit in 2024 came after a bitter blow of leaving GB Boxing just five months before the Paris Olympics, citing a loss of trust. Now, under the guidance of former WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla at Oldham's Fox ABC gym, they're punching above their weight. Both Garan (super-welterweight) and Ioan (middleweight) made successful Matchroom debuts in April – Ioan dispatching Novak Radulovic of Serbia, while Garan outpointed England's Marco Simmonds.
Signing with Matchroom in February was a game-changer for the twins. Matchroom Sport chief Eddie Hearn hailed them as "two very talented young fighters" joining their stable, and it's clear the backing has given Ioan and Garan a platform to showcase their skills – a far cry from the uncertainty they faced pre-deal. For Ioan, this means: "Now we can show everyone how good we are." Garan agrees, highlighting the massive opportunities and potential for big nights of boxing in Wales – his dream come true.
The twins' current training environment under Crolla is a positive and enriching experience. Garan credits Crolla as one of the best coaches around: "He knows what it takes to be a pro, and that gives us confidence." Ioan adds that the Manchester gym creates an electric atmosphere, making gruelling training sessions feel less like work thanks to their passion for boxing and the supportive group around them.
Despite adapting to life in Manchester, Garan and Ioan remain deeply rooted in Wales. They cherish the unwavering support from their home village – fans who'll travel 10 hours round trip to cheer them on. This backing has been crucial to their journey, with both brothers acknowledging its importance as they chase professional titles.
