West African heads of state have given their final approval to the ambitious Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic Gas Pipeline, a project poised to significantly reshape the region's energy landscape and bolster Europe's gas supply. The vast 6,000-kilometre pipeline, which will hug the Atlantic coastline of 13 African nations, is designed to transport Nigerian gas northwards to Morocco, from where it will connect into Europe's existing gas network via Spain. This landmark agreement, reached in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on Sunday, represents the culmination of nearly a decade of intricate negotiations and establishes the critical legal and governance framework for the undertaking.
