Pupils are returning to a school in the occupied West Bank that has been surrounded by barbed-wire fencing. This measure has been implemented as Palestinian parents express concerns for their children's safety due to a rise in Israeli settler attacks in the area.
The village of al-Mughayyir, located north-east of Ramallah, has seen an increase in Jewish settler outposts. The area is also regularly blocked by Israeli forces, who frequently operate an ad-hoc checkpoint at the village entrance.
This year, six people have been killed in al-Mughayyir, including three pupils from the school, amid a surge of settler-related violence against Palestinians. Among those killed was 14-year-old Aws al-Naasan, who was shot dead by a settler outside the school gates in April.
