West Brom have said they are “devastated” following the death of former midfielder Quevin Castro, aged 25.
Castro, who made two senior appearances for the Baggies during a two-year spell at The Hawthorns, collapsed during a friendly match between his current club, third-tier Portuguese side Real Sport Clube, and Estrela da Amadora on Saturday and later died in hospital.
West Brom said: “West Brom are devastated to learn of the untimely passing of Quevin Castro, aged just 25. Albion will pay tribute to Quevin on Sunday, with a period of applause in the 25th minute of the fixture against Burnley. James Morrison’s men will also wear black armbands.”
The club added: “The thoughts of everyone at Albion are with Quevin’s loved ones at this desperately sad time.”
Castro made his first-team debut for the Baggies against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in 2021 and made one league appearance for them the following February. He had loan spells at Burton, Notts County and Gateshead before joining York in the summer of 2023, and after making 15 appearances for the Minstermen, he returned to Portugal.
