West Ham eye top spot in Championship clash against QPR

West Ham United will face London rivals Queens Park Rangers in a Championship match today, with the Hammers aiming to potentially move to the top of the league table.

  • West Ham are currently second in the Championship, two points behind leaders Swansea City.
  • QPR are four places and two points below West Ham in the league table.
  • West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has been involved in seven goals this season, with four goals and three assists.

West Ham United are set to play London rivals Queens Park Rangers in a Championship fixture today, Friday 9 October 2026. The match, which will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event, marks the return of the Championship after a three-week international break.

The Hammers, who were relegated in May, currently sit second in the table, just two points adrift of leaders Swansea City. They have accumulated 15 points from their initial eight games, with their sole defeat occurring at home to Charlton in August. Since then, they have secured four wins and two draws, including a comeback from 2-0 down against Millwall in their last outing.

QPR are positioned four places and two points below West Ham in the league standings, having also suffered only one defeat this season. Their loss came against Middlesbrough in early September, and they have since drawn three consecutive games against Charlton, West Brom, and Preston North End.

West Ham will be without Mohamadou Kante due to a red card in the Millwall match, though Joel Veltman may return from injury. Konstantinos Mavropanos is expected to be fit. For QPR, Dennis Cirkin is suspended, and there are injury doubts over several players, including Tariq Lamptey and Ilias Chair.

Why this matters: The outcome of this match could see West Ham United move to the top of the Championship table.
