Westminster City Council has stated it is “exploring all options” for Banksy’s flag statue, known as 'Blinded by the Flag', located in central London. The artwork, which depicts a suited man with his face obscured by a large flag, was installed by the artist in Waterloo Place in April.
Since its appearance on April 29, the council has spent nearly £60,000 on safeguarding the piece, covering costs for safety barriers, administration, and a security guard. A council spokesperson confirmed that “No formal decision has been made about its long-term future,” though the statue is reportedly due for discussion at an upcoming council cabinet meeting.
The council considers itself the custodian of the artwork and has been in contact with Banksy’s team. While Banksy retains the copyright, the council has taken responsibility for the physical statue's safety.
