The latest analysis from consumer champion Which? has identified top-value cars for UK buyers, offering a clear route to savings of up to £2,000 or more. The 'Great Value' ratings, updated every six months, reveal the best models that combine impressive performance with affordable prices.
To earn its coveted status, a car must meet rigorous criteria, including a minimum score of 65% in Which?'s exhaustive testing procedures. Crucially, the vehicle's new price – taking into account typical market discounts – must be at least 20% lower than its class average.
Beyond cost and performance, Which? also scrutinises a car's safety and reliability record. To qualify as 'Great Value', models must have a model reliability score of at least three out of five stars from ReliabilityIndex, alongside a Euro NCAP rating of three or more stars.
The methodology behind the 'Great Value' assessment involves six months of pricing data, factoring in typical discounts and eliminating any artificially low prices resulting from government schemes or non-recurring promotions. While the focus is on new car prices, Which? also provides nearly-new prices for one-year-old models, acknowledging the appeal of second-hand options.
The in-depth analysis is available exclusively to Which? members, underlining the organisation's commitment to providing authoritative advice and empowering UK households to make informed purchasing decisions on significant investments like a new car.
