  • Widow's Bay won 14 of its 19 Emmy nominations, including Best Comedy Series.
  • Matthew Rhys made history by winning two best lead actor awards in one night for Widow's Bay and The Beast In Me.
  • The series, which debuted in late April, gained popularity through word-of-mouth and memes by June.

Apple TV+ series Widow's Bay made a significant impact at the recent Emmy Awards, securing 14 prizes from its 19 nominations. Among its wins was the coveted Best Comedy Series award, alongside all the top acting categories.

Star Matthew Rhys achieved a historic feat, becoming the first person to win two best lead actor awards in a single night. He was recognised for his role in Widow's Bay and also for the Netflix thriller, The Beast In Me.

The horror-comedy, which features Rhys as the mayor of a cursed coastal town, debuted in late April. It began to gain considerable traction in June, largely through word-of-mouth and online memes, just before the Emmys eligibility window closed.

Other notable acting wins included Kate O’Flynn for her role as the eccentric assistant Patricia, and Stephen Root, who received Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the fisherman Wyck.
