Firefighters have brought a fresh wildfire in Greater Manchester under control. The blaze, near Holmfirth Road in Oldham, Tameside, was attended by fire crews from about 22:25 BST on Wednesday.
At its height, the fire covered an area of approximately 1,640 by 492ft (500m by 150m). As of Thursday afternoon, engines remained at the scene to dampen down hotspots and prevent further spread.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that this latest fire is not connected to earlier blazes that affected nearby land at Dove Stone Reservoir and Swineshaw for almost three weeks. The cause of the current fire is under investigation.
A road closure was implemented on Holmfirth Road between Dove Stone and Greenfield reservoirs. The incident occurs while an amber extreme heat warning is active across much of England, including Greater Manchester, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 38C in parts of the country.
