Warrington Wolves clinched a significant 34-28 victory against reigning Betfred Super League champions Hull KR. The win saw captain George Williams score his first try since undergoing neck surgery in April, helping his side close the gap on the competition's top two.

Williams, an England half-back, had been out for nearly four months after sustaining an injury against Catalans Dragons. His match-defining try came in a rearranged fixture against the Robins, just five days after his return to action against York.

The Wolves' triumph was marked by six tries, including two from Albert Hopoate, and further scores from James Bentley, Toafofoa Sipley, Liam Byrne, and Williams. Ewan Irwin successfully converted five goals for Warrington.

Despite quickfire tries from Mikey Lewis and Karl Lawton putting Hull KR ahead 14-10 before the break, Warrington reclaimed the lead early in the second half. Late scores from Dean Hadley and Tevita Pangai Jr for Hull KR were not enough to overturn the deficit.

The victory places Warrington Wolves within two points of competition pacesetters Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors after 23 games. Hull KR remain fifth in the standings, continuing their battle for a play-off spot.

Why this matters: The win significantly boosts Warrington Wolves' position in the Super League standings, bringing them closer to the top two teams.
