Zoe Dixon's life was tragically cut short in Merthyr Tydfil last week, leaving behind a community in shock and grieving her loved ones. A 35-year-old woman with her whole life ahead of her, Ms Dixon died on June 22 from injuries sustained during an incident at a Penydarren address on the evening of June 15.
Pontypridd Coroner's Court heard during the inquest opening that it was believed Ms Dixon had suffered a severe traumatic head injury. When South Wales Police were called to Rocky Road shortly before midnight, they found her and rushed her to hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, despite receiving medical care, her condition continued to deteriorate.
According to an initial post-mortem examination, the provisional cause of death was a blunt head injury. Assistant Coroner Rachel Knight stated that she would be opening an inquest into Ms Dixon's passing due to the nature of the incident. In a heartfelt message, she extended her condolences to Zoe's family during this incredibly difficult time.
A separate investigation is also ongoing after a 39-year-old man was found dead at Pontsticill Reservoir within Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) in the early hours of June 16. As yet, no further information has been released regarding this incident.
South Wales Police have confirmed that their investigation into Zoe Dixon's death remains active and that her family is being supported by specially trained officers. The force had previously stated that they were treating the incident as a homicide, highlighting the seriousness of the case.
