A female driver assisted a police officer by offering him a lift in her Nissan Micra during a foot pursuit of a suspect. The officer had been chasing Jacob Roberts, 25, who had previously reverse-rammed a police car twice and collided with parked cars and a building.
Roberts had sped away from officers after they smelled cannabis from his van. During the chase, he reportedly drove erratically, failed to stop at multiple junctions, mounted pavements, and put pedestrians at risk.
Roberts, from Mountain Ash, was arrested after ditching his van in a dead-end street in Abercwmboi, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and attempting to flee on foot. Police bodycam footage captured the officer asking the woman for a lift, to which she replied, "Get in."
Officers later found two cannabis cigarettes on Roberts. He was sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on 16 September to one year and two months in jail for dangerous driving and disqualified from driving for three years. Roberts pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, failure to stop after a road accident, criminal damage to property, and possession of controlled Class B drugs.
