A Queensland woman, Kylie Ellina Truswell-Mobbs, 52, has been sentenced to a suspended jail term after pleading guilty to assisting the suicide of her terminally ill husband. The murder charge against her was dismissed in the supreme court in Brisbane on Monday, 28 September 2026.
Prosecutors accepted her guilty plea over the death of David Ronald Mobbs, 56, at their Alexandra Hills home in December 2023. Mr Mobbs was suffering from an aggressive form of motor neurone disease (MND).
Justice Tom Sullivan sentenced Truswell-Mobbs to two years' imprisonment, suspended immediately due to time served, after accepting she had acted out of compassion. She had already spent 14 months in custody.
The court heard that Mr Mobbs's condition had rapidly deteriorated after his diagnosis in April 2023, leaving him bedridden and in pain. He reportedly begged to die on 5 December 2023, the night before his death.
