The WorkWell health and employment support service is expanding to cover the whole of England, following a pilot programme that supported approximately 25,000 people in its first 14 months. The expansion is supported by an investment of up to £259 million over three years and could assist up to 250,000 individuals.
WorkWell offers integrated, holistic early help for people facing health-related barriers to employment. This voluntary support is available to those with a disability or health condition, whether they are currently employed or not, and regardless of their benefit entitlement.
Participants receive person-centred support tailored to their specific health issues, which may include mental health concerns or musculoskeletal problems. The multi-disciplinary support varies by location but can encompass physiotherapy, mental health interventions, and advice on workplace adjustments. Individuals can be referred by their GP, Jobcentre Plus, employer, other local services, or can self-refer.
