World champion Wu Yize's run at the English Open has ended in the third round, following a 4-1 loss to Welsh prospect Liam Davies in Brentwood. The 20-year-old Davies established a 3-0 lead, including a break of 105 in the second frame, en route to securing his first ranking event quarter-final.
Elsewhere, Mark Selby, who was a runner-up at last week's British Open, saw his hopes of another final dashed by a 4-3 defeat against Kyren Wilson. Selby initially led 2-0 but ultimately fell to the fellow former world champion.
England's Judd Trump, recently dethroned as world number one, edged out Scotland's Anthony McGill 4-3 in a tense decider. Ali Carter also advanced with a 4-2 victory over Gong Chenzhi, while Zhou Yuelong made a 141 break in his 4-2 win against Yuan Sijun. Ding Junhui beat Joe O'Connor 4-1.
