British sailing duo Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris have claimed gold at the 470 World Championship in Japan, establishing themselves as favourites for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The pair secured their first world title in Enoshima, improving on the bronze medal they won last year. They held off a challenge from defending champions Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona of Spain.

Bettine Harris commented on the victory, stating, "To win the worlds for the first time is really special. It's extra special for it to have been here in Japan where it feels like the unofficial home of the 470." She added that despite tricky conditions, they gave it their all and she was proud of their finish to the year.

Wrigley and Harris are set to defend their world title next June at the Sailing World Championships in Gdynia, Poland. This event will also present the first opportunity to secure Great Britain a quota place in the 470 class for the 2028 Olympics.
