Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass in the UK will see a significant refresh of available titles this July, as Microsoft confirms eleven new additions to its popular gaming service. The upcoming wave of games, which includes the critically acclaimed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 and the full release of Palworld 1.0, aims to bolster the platform's offering for its extensive user base across various subscription tiers.
Among the highlights, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is set to join the Ultimate, Premium, and PC tiers on July 21. Gears Of War: Reloaded, which launched for Ultimate and PC subscribers last year, will become available for Premium subscribers on July 9. Other notable titles arriving include Winds Of Arcana: Ruination, Ascend To Zero, and The Planet Crafter, catering to a diverse range of gaming preferences from role-playing to simulation.
However, the influx of new games is accompanied by the departure of ten titles from the service on July 15. Popular games such as EA Sports Football Club 24, Powerwash Simulator, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition will no longer be accessible through Game Pass. This regular rotation of titles is a standard practice for subscription services, designed to keep content fresh but also requiring subscribers to complete games or purchase them outright before they leave.
These service updates come at a turbulent time for Microsoft's gaming division. The company recently confirmed a round of price increases for its Xbox consoles, a move that could impact affordability for UK consumers. Furthermore, new boss Asha Sharma has announced a substantial restructuring programme, which includes 3,600 job losses globally and the independence of several game studios, including Double Fine and Ninja Theory. These changes signal a strategic shift within Microsoft's gaming strategy, potentially affecting future game development and console pricing.
Industry speculation also suggests that the next-generation Xbox console, codenamed 'Project Helix', could carry a price tag upwards of $1000 (approximately GBP 790 at current exchange rates). If accurate, such a price point would represent a considerable investment for UK gamers, potentially influencing adoption rates and the overall console market landscape. The combination of price hikes, job cuts, and strategic realignments indicates a period of significant transition for Xbox, with the Game Pass additions serving as a key pillar in maintaining subscriber engagement.
