A unique musical event is set to unfold at the Lammermuir festival, featuring 100 tuba players performing Anthony Braxton’s Composition No 19 (for 100 Tubas) (1971).
The concert will be held at Amisfield Walled Garden, a large space near Haddington, East Lothian. This marks the first time the composition will be performed outside the US and only its third performance in history.
The piece, described by Braxton as “alternative parade music,” allows for both unity and diversity among the players, with opportunities for individual improvisation. Tuba players from various countries, including the US, Latvia, Estonia, and the UK, are expected to participate.
The Lammermuir festival is scheduled for 19 September.
