Twelve gardens across the UK have been highlighted for their autumn colour, from South Derbyshire to County Down. The list includes RHS partner gardens, National Trust sites and botanic gardens.
In South Derbyshire, Bluebell Arboretum & Nursery holds a collection of more than 70 Japanese maples alongside katsura trees, American red oaks and five varieties of Persian ironwood within its arboretum and nine acres of woodland garden.
Castle Howard Arboretum in North Yorkshire offers 120 acres of woodland with bronze oaks, golden beeches and Japanese maples from October to early November. It is home to more than 7,000 trees and runs autumn events including fungi foraging walks, a family-friendly fungi festival and an artists and makers fair.
Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest in Kent, managed by Forestry England, spans 350 acres and holds more than 12,000 specimen trees. It is open daily and for the National Garden Scheme on Tuesday, October 20.
Other sites listed include RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford, Coverwood Lakes in Surrey, RHS Garden Wisley, Stourhead in Wiltshire, Sheffield Park and Garden in East Sussex, Mount Stewart in County Down, Bodnant Garden in Conwy, Dawyck Botanic Garden in the Scottish Borders and Lullingstone Castle and The World Garden in Kent.
Stourhead's First Light sessions on October 23, 27 and 31 cost £12 and offer photographers early-morning access. Coverwood Lakes is open for the National Garden Scheme on Sunday, October 18.
