The UK's business community has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting those who have served in the Armed Forces. This year's Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award winners – 162 organisations across various sectors, from finance to emergency services – showcase a growing trend of inclusivity and appreciation for the skills and values that military personnel bring to the civilian workforce.
The recipients, ranging from healthcare providers to local government bodies, have exceeded baseline commitments by providing additional paid leave for Reservists, implementing tailored HR policies for service families and veterans, and actively promoting the Armed Forces Covenant within their networks. In doing so, they foster inclusive environments where veterans, Reservists, military families, and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers can thrive.
According to data from the Ministry of Defence, employers who receive the Gold Award have shown a long-term commitment to supporting service personnel and their families. This commitment is not only beneficial for individuals transitioning from military life but also contributes to building a more resilient national workforce, aligning with the Defence's people agenda.
Calvin Bailey MBE MP, Minister for Veterans and People, praised the award winners, stating that their support makes a significant difference in helping service personnel adjust to civilian life. He expressed pride in recognising the efforts of these organisations and hoped their example would inspire other employers to follow suit and enhance their support for the Armed Forces community.
The impact of these employers' actions extends beyond the recognition they receive. By advocating for defence and promoting inclusivity, Gold Award holders play a crucial role in building a more cohesive national workforce, leveraging the diverse talents of service personnel and their families to strengthen the nation's resilience.
