Twenty Malaysian scholars have been awarded prestigious Chevening scholarships, enabling them to pursue postgraduate studies in the UK. The British High Commission hosted a pre-departure briefing and reception for the scholars.
This year's cohort sees an increased representation from East Malaysia, with five scholars compared to three last year. Three are from Sarawak and two from Sabah, making up 25% of the current group. There is also a growing interest in universities outside London, with eight scholars choosing institutions in Scotland, up from three in 2025.
Ruzina Hasan, Acting Deputy British High Commissioner to Malaysia, highlighted the UK's investment in individuals with the talent and ambition to make a difference. She stated that the UK-Malaysia education partnership remains a strong pillar of their bilateral relationship.
The Chevening Award is the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and supported by Malaysian corporate partners and British universities. Scholars will begin their programmes in September, covering diverse fields such as war and psychiatry, infection and immunity, and cybersecurity.
