More than £2.5bn in lost and unclaimed financial assets has been returned to UK consumers in the first six months of 2026. The initiative, named 'Billions 4 Millions', has reconnected savers with pensions, investments, savings, and financial protection.
Firms involved in the effort include JP Morgan, Standard Life, Aviva, and Foresters Financial. On average, customers recovered £31,647, with the largest single recovery being a protection policy valued at over £3.2m.
Pensions represented 80% of the reconnections by volume, though they accounted for 38% of the overall value returned. In contrast, insurance and protection made up 12% of reconnections but approximately 60% of the value, with an average returned value of £157,754.
The scheme, launched by lost asset finder Gretel in January, initially aimed to return £1bn to UK consumers by the end of 2026. This target has now been increased to £5bn.
Gretel estimates that around £89bn is currently held in forgotten or unclaimed accounts across the UK. Pensions alone are estimated to account for roughly £31.1bn of this unclaimed wealth.
