A substantial £4.5 million upgrade project is set to begin this weekend on Scotland's picturesque Kyle Line, as announced by Network Rail. The significant investment will see vital infrastructure improvements carried out along a key section of the railway, which is renowned for its stunning Highland scenery and popularity with both tourists and local commuters.
The comprehensive programme of works will involve the replacement of approximately two kilometres of track, including new rails, sleepers, and ballast. This essential maintenance is designed to bolster the line's resilience, enhance operational reliability, and reduce the need for future reactive repairs, ultimately aiming for a smoother and more consistent service for passengers.
The initial phase of the upgrade is scheduled to take place from Saturday, 18th May, until Sunday, 26th May. During this period, sections of the line will be closed to allow engineers to safely carry out the extensive work. Consequently, passengers travelling on the Kyle Line should anticipate changes to their journeys, with bus replacement services operating between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh to minimise disruption.
The Kyle Line, which stretches 63 miles from Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh, is celebrated for offering breathtaking views of lochs, mountains, and coastal landscapes.
