A new £5 billion manga-inspired theme park project is set to be built near Cergy-Pontoise, northwest of Paris. The substantial development, which French President Emmanuel Macron compared to the construction of Disneyland Paris, includes plans for three new theme parks, one of which is expected to be based on the popular Japanese franchise Dragon Ball Z.
The announcement was made during a visit to France by Saudi Arabia's Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as part of a "strategic partnership" between the two countries. Saudi-owned stock company Qiddiya will provide funding for the major, mixed-use park destination in the Île-de-France region.
The project, which received approval during the two-day state visit, is projected to cost €6 billion (£5 billion) and create 22,000 jobs. French President Emmanuel Macron stated, "Nothing like this has been seen since Disneyland Paris. A new global destination. Here, in France."
