The 83rd Venice Film Festival is set to open with Danny Boyle's new film, 'Ink'. The movie focuses on Rupert Murdoch, played by Guy Pearce, and The Sun's editor, Jack O’Connell, depicting the newspaper's rise to become the world's biggest seller.
Netflix acquired the US rights for 'Ink' last month, following its report of record UK revenues of £2bn, surpassing ITV's £1.9bn. Searchlight Pictures, a Disney division, will premiere Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy 'Wild Horse Nine', starring Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich.
The festival will also host the world premiere of 'Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger', a documentary about the Gallagher brothers' reunion tour. Liam and Noel Gallagher are expected to attend. Disney will launch the documentary on IMAX, after reaching $4bn in the 2026 US box office.
Other notable films include Florian Zeller’s psychological thriller 'Bunker', starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, which explores the theme of doom-prepping. Alex Gibney's four-hour documentary 'Musk' profiles Elon Musk, who has reportedly called it a “hit piece”.
Al Pacino stars in the action thriller 'Father Joe', and George Clooney is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion. Jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal will premiere 'Flesh Impact', featuring Dakota Johnson as Marilyn Monroe.
