Students across the UK received their A-level results today, 13 August 2026, with many sixth formers in Halifax celebrating their achievements and planning for their futures. At Trinity sixth form academy, 18-year-old Hayden Bettson-Day secured an A* in maths and two As in chemistry and biology, which was enough for his acceptance into Newcastle University to study medicine.
Hayden is one of 450 students at the academy, which is part of the Trinity multi-academy trust. Classmates Aidan Chiu and Fran Whitehead also expressed relief at their results, both having achieved A*s in chemistry. Aidan plans to study maths, while Fran will study geology at the University of Exeter.
Natalia Ntabola and Sandra Konarska, both 18, also received the grades required to attend the University of Manchester together. Sandra, who achieved three A*s, praised the college for its rigorous teaching and encouragement.
Michael Fitzsimons, the principal of Trinity sixth form academy, attributed the college's success to its ethics of hard work and commitment, as well as its dedication to supporting students from diverse backgrounds. The college funds a “scholars programme” to provide high-achieving students with free access to tutors from top universities, aiming to boost their confidence and interviewing skills.
Students are now celebrating their results in various ways, including family meals and socialising in Halifax town centre pubs.
