A new immersive cinematic experience at Lightroom in London is celebrating Aardman Animations, the company behind popular claymation films and TV shows. The exhibition features characters such as Wallace, Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep.
The experience combines documentary storytelling with behind-the-scenes insights and immersive digital renderings. It delves into the origins of Aardman, including how founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton met and the creation of their character Morph.
The exhibition also showcases how animators act out scenes before using puppets and how mouths are formed for specific sounds. Clips from Aardman's cinematic works and a barn-based talent show with Shaun the Sheep are interspersed throughout.
Director Lucy Izzard is quoted in a voiceover stating, "I think people still crave imperfection," suggesting a reason for Aardman's appeal in a technologically advanced age. The experience allows viewers to see details like lumps, bumps, and fingerprints in the clay models at a large scale.
