Beau Lamarre-Condon, 31, allegedly told a friend, who is a police officer, "I love you" and "not everything in the news is true" about a month after his arrest over a double murder, a court has heard.
Lamarre-Condon is accused of fatally shooting Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies with his police service weapon in Baird’s Paddington home on 19 February 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated break and enter.
Dayna Schagen, a NSW police officer and friend of Lamarre-Condon, testified on Monday about a call she received in late March 2024. According to her police statement, read to the court, Lamarre-Condon said, "I just wanted to tell you that I love you and before you do anything, you need to know not everything in the news is true. It will all come out in court." Schagen stated she then told him, "You killed two people, why would I ever want to speak to you again?"
Earlier on Monday, Schagen told the jury that days before the alleged murders, on 14 February 2024, Lamarre-Condon asked her a "hypothetical question" about police response to reports of gunshots. He allegedly asked what the police response would be if a job for gunshots fired was broadcast, but then someone reported children letting off fireworks.
The defence team has claimed that Baird and Davies were accidentally shot in two separate struggles with the accused, who was acting in "self-defence". The trial before Justice Natalie Adams continues.
