Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company (AIUC), a startup co-founded by Rune Kvist, an early Anthropic employee, and Rajiv Dattani, former COO of METR, has announced a $40 million Series A funding round. Ribbit Capital led the investment, with participation from First Harmonic. This new funding brings AIUC's total capital raised to $55 million, following a previous $15 million seed round.
AIUC aims to address the challenge of controlling AI agents as they become more sophisticated. The company has developed a third-party audit and certification layer for AI agents, drawing inspiration from the cybersecurity standard SOC 2. Their proprietary standard, AIUC-1, is used to validate agents.
The startup's testing service puts AI agents through approximately 5,000 tests to assess their behaviour in various scenarios, including jailbreaks, hallucinations, and data leaks. The results are compiled into a detailed report. AIUC states that it uses AI agents to conduct these tests and AI to analyse the data, with human verification for the final audit.
Customers of AIUC reportedly include Cursor, Lovable, Harvey, and ElevenLabs. Dattani's previous employer, METR, also conducts similar testing for frontier labs, though its focus has primarily been on performance.
