Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal has entered into discussions with Arsenal over a potential transfer for Brazil international winger Gabriel Martinelli. The player is reportedly free to leave the club this summer, with manager Mikel Arteta having made it clear that Martinelli is not in his plans.
Turkish club Galatasaray previously showed interest in Martinelli earlier this summer, making a £45m bid. However, the Brazilian reportedly would not consider a move to Istanbul. Al-Hilal has communicated to Arsenal that they are prepared to offer a higher bid than Galatasaray's.
Martinelli, who joined Arsenal from Ituano in 2019, has 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium. He made 53 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 11 goals as the Gunners secured the Premier League title. Despite this, he was omitted from the squad for Arsenal's 3-0 league opener victory against Coventry on Friday.
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has expressed discomfort with Martinelli's treatment, telling Sky Sports, "The way Martinelli is being treated at the moment, it really makes me feel uncomfortable." Wright added that while a move might be desired, it should suit the player's wishes for departure.
