Alan Shute, who served as assistant general secretary of the National Union of Civil and Public Servants (NUCPS), has died at 92. He was known for his role as a trade union negotiator.
Mr Shute became assistant general secretary of the NUCPS in 1975. His career included representing some of the GCHQ workers who were dismissed in 1984 following the government's ban on trade union membership for employees.
Before his role at NUCPS, Mr Shute was appointed as a full-time negotiator for the Society of Civil Servants trade union in 1969. He had previously worked as a customs officer.
