Carlos Alcaraz made a successful return to competitive tennis at the US Open, securing a straight-sets victory over Roman Safiullin. The Spaniard won 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in his first singles match in over four and a half months.
Alcaraz had been sidelined since April due to a wrist injury. Following his win, he reported that his wrist was "pain-free" and that he felt he was playing his normal style.
Despite the positive start, Alcaraz maintained a cautious approach to his serve, averaging 113mph on his first serve. He acknowledged the uncertainty ahead and stated his goal for the tournament is to compete and enjoy the experience.
