US healthcare officials have reported a food poisoning outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts, affecting people in at least 15 states. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is aware of at least 55 cases nationally, with four individuals requiring hospitalisation.

The outbreak involves multiple germs, including salmonella and different strains of E. coli. Cases have been reported in states including Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Officials have linked the cases to alfalfa sprouts produced by Everything Sprouts, a Minnesota grower. These sprouts were sold under the Calco and Everything Sprouts brands to restaurants and grocery stores. The company has initiated a voluntary recall of specific lots of its alfalfa sprouts.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) previously sent a warning letter to Everything Sprouts in June 2025, following 2024 inspections that identified concerns such as a leaking roof dripping water onto bean sprouts and workers' smocks.
