Amanda Knox comedy show at Edinburgh Fringe sparks controversy

Amanda Knox, previously convicted and acquitted of murder, is scheduled to perform a comedy show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, drawing criticism from Meredith Kercher's sister and a petition.

  • Amanda Knox is performing a comedy show titled 'Cartwheel' at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
  • The show focuses on motherhood and Knox's experiences, not Meredith Kercher's death.
  • Meredith Kercher's sister, Stephanie, stated her sibling would not find the topics humorous.

Amanda Knox, who was convicted and later acquitted of the 2007 murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher in Italy, is scheduled to perform a comedy show at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show, titled 'Cartwheel', is described as being about motherhood and how Knox will explain her experiences to her daughter.

Knox stated to the Telegraph that she does not joke about Meredith Kercher's death, but rather about her own vilification. However, Kercher's sister, Stephanie, told BBC Breakfast that her sibling "wouldn't find these topics of any comedy value".

A petition against the show, initiated by a friend of Meredith Kercher, has gathered over 2,400 signatures. The petition claims the show disrespects Kercher's memory and risks normalising violence against women. A spokesperson for Knox, however, said the show, set to run for 11 days from Friday, honours Kercher's memory.
